I wasn't aware of the distinction until I started using Raddle.

Tech workers are from, or believe that they're from, a privileged class.... That has in many ways and will continue to stop being the case, but there is already an ingrained feel that they are an uplifted part of the system and have much to lose from it's collapse.

Therefore many of them are fuckin' libertarians.

tbh, it's mostly true. In the current economic climate, being an experienced programmer is essentially a free pass to get a well-paying job in any major city.

there is already an ingrained feel that they are an uplifted part of the system and have much to lose from it's collapse.

I disagree here. Most tech workers are vaguely anti-authoritarian, I think because they know that no matter what happens in the next 50 years, their skills will be in high demand and are not easily learned.

I think most of their anti-autoritarism are leftovers from the hacker/cracker era, some things this people did were amazing. Now mostly the farce remains.

Because they operate under the false delusion that FOSS is a "meritocracy", that the only thing that proves virtue in FOSS spaces is producing code, and that they aren't operating under the shadow of massive structural and social biases. It's primarily the programmers and engineers (like Linus) that need to be reigned in and reeducated tbh.

God, I've been so frustrated with this. Bryan Lunduke's video covering this topic made me wanna fucking vomit.

I instantly unsubbed to him after that video. Luckly about a week ago, I saw people on reddit criticizing him for that video and the gaps in logic he had.

What was the video called? I really liked his Linux Sucks talks and I'm morbidly curious.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
... ewww.

Hear ya. Probably the most political "supposedly non-political" diatribe I've seen. Apart from that it was pretty tedious because he sort of regurgitated that same nonsense for 75% of the video.

Fucking neckbeards, bruh. STEM fields have historically been male dominated, resulting in an environment where toxic misogynistic behaviors are not kept in check, or laughed off. Combine that with the culture arising from the anonymity of the internet. Then theres shit like GamerGate.

Because too many of them are entitled nerds with poor social skills. I had to tell some guy off in a project I'm involved with that shitting on Github for being full of "dem sjwes" builds a crappy atmosphere. There's plenty of other reasons to dislike Github however
