This is hex-rays, which is apparently a very good decompiler. However, it's nonfree, and really damn expensive. Are there any libre alternatives?

Not that I can see, unfortunately. Closest I can find is Panopticon, written in Rust. It doesn't create a pseudocode file for ease of reading, but it does create flow charts to make it easier to visualise flow control. Might make for a good basis to create something similar though.
