Nobody works 10,000 times harder or is 10,000 times smarter than anyone else. When you look at people with a net wealth of $80,000,000,000 (ten zeroes) and consider a lot of people have a net wealth of $80,000 or at most $800,000, something is obviously fucked up.

You can justify it some other way, some roundabout way of defending it via praise of markets & property rights, or Kevin O'Leary-style

Cheering on of disgusting inequality because GDP will grow (growth that is promptly captured by this tiny elite anyway), perhaps the tried-and-true ranting about the Soviet Union and its implicit "proof" that any policies to the left of Hillary Clinton's Goldman Sachs speeches will lead to the destruction of civilization, but it sure as hell isn't "fair" as any normal human being would understand it.

Takes a lot of work, a lot of education to be able ignore the obvious. The fact that things are getting so bad that many people are pointing out the obvious about inequality in our society (something that is not often done, truth be told) is easily seen in Reddit, where most big subs are becoming battlegrounds between Trump supporters and the radical left. It's a harbinger, honestly. Tons of radicalized, angry youth certainly correlate highly with unrest in societies.
