Ouch, that’s harsh.

I grew up super sheltered, and while I wasn’t opposed to weed or shrooms, I never got a chance to try them until I moved a few hundred miles away. I was floored at how not a big deal it was, and I didn’t get why it was illegal (this was before anything had been legalized, and the seeds of anarchism were planted). My sister, however, 13 years younger, grew up with DARE and took it so seriously. She genuinely believed weed was a gateway drug for years, until she was in her 30s and realized ALL her friends smoke, they just didn’t smoke around her out of respect.

I’m sure plenty of us here would smoke you out and/or trip-sit if our paths crossed.

Honestly the main thing that keeps me away (besides a lack of money) is the fact that I have no one I'd trust to watch me. My wife told me she would out of concern for my safety but who wants to do that around someone who is going to judge you for it?

If you approach shrooms in like 0.2g steps you won't need someone to watch you. They're not as unpredictable or uncontrollable as people tend to think. I find the whole tripsitter thing overrated, they can just as easily interfere with the good vibes. But maybe people's experiences are all different and maybe I shouldn't say any of this.

If you can't get a trip sitter but want to dip your toes anyway I can recommend just doing a small dose of mushrooms, like 1 gram of dried Cubensis at most, and you can start with half of that. It won't put you fully into the psychedelic headspace but will still get you some very managable and subtle trippy effects, so that you can get a feel for it.

I don't even do normal dose shroom trips these days as I've grown to prefer the lower dose headspace. It is also far more enjoyable for me in a social context as I tend to want to avoid other people entirely when I am on higher doses or on stronger psychedelics such as LSD.

In fairness to your wife cannabis is both physically and chemically addictive. Tho if drinking a beer doesn't cause you to get addicted I wouldn't worry about cannabis. Tho I think its incredibly overrated imo.

That was more or less my response. Plus, to my knowledge shrooms arent addictive at all.

She responding by saying she knows what shes talking about because she is actively taking a class about the psychology of addiction.

I just laughed a little and dropped it. 🤷‍♀️

edit: I was also told that I should never touch anything addictive because my Grandpa was a lifelong alcholic.

psychologiest love saying shit is genetic. I doubt the genetic factor is nearly as big as one would think

I think cannabis is pretty mildly in having a desire to consume it. I personally find it weaker than TV or sweets but more than coffee. My real issue with cannabis is if you consume every night for months when you stop consuming you just won't be able to sleep for a night or several.. So I can totaly see your reason as valid. Tho depending on what you take, you might get that same issue.

i used to do weed but made sure i did it no more than once a fortnight as i’d heard that too much can give you psychosis and brain damage. not sure how true that is and to what extent that’s anti-drug propaganda though.

it never made me feel anxious but it’s different for everyone ofc.

i did think about it a lot but that might have had to do with the nicotine in the tobacco mixed with it but some dealers just sell weed on its own obv. and again how addictive it is is different for everyone.

i think often the dose is the poison. my friend never felt anxious when doing it in moderate amounts until he smoked about half a spliff one day and felt really nauseous and paranoid.

uhh, there is limited evidence that use of cannabis before ones brain is fully formed will restrict total brain volume for the rest of ones life. So while I don't know of enough evidence to say thats its true I would bet that those who smoke weed before 25 will have decreased ability to memorize info quikly than non teen smokers. Tho its not enough to be noticable. More just micro level stuff.

And cannabis absolutely can give you psychosis or help catalyze a psychotic episode in some individuals. Tho, I think the biggest issue that I hated with legalization is brushing under the rug the massive health problems of smoking. Just because its cannabis doesn't mean it won't give you lung cancer.

think i remember reading a study about it damaging developing brains and yeah inhaling any smoke can lead to health problems. it helped me feel calm as a pretty anxious person but perhaps it’s a good thing that i don’t do it atm.

yeah thats prob good. Tho I've done a ton of drugs for a substatial period where brains can be developed. So like the volume decrease won't ever be so much that you won't be pretty functional. But greater brain volume is a pretty nice thing to have.
