This is true and very worrying. A huge consequence of this destruction of wild populations is that, in many species, it destroys ancestral knowledge. Migration, protection from predators, location of resources, and so on and so forth are passed by individuals from generation to generation.

Elephants, deer, moose, wolves, dolphins, whales, etc. all do this to some degree or more. Individual animals aren't just moving parts of the scenery, they're complex individuals with their own memories and personality. Many social animals are being devastated in a way that is irreplaceable.
