It's also anarchist. MLs make up the largest single tendency on the team, but the majority of the regular people who use the site (not the mods/admins) are much more anarchist leaning. If you want to see more anarchist things posted there, then come make anarchist posts instead of complaining that it's not anarchist enough (which is a very sectarian thing to say to be truthful).

Full disclosure: I've been working on the Lemmy Rust server for chapo.chat for the past month.

There was a good chance of us ending up here on Raddle at one point instead of trying to establish our own platform, but a few things rubbed us the wrong way. First of all, we've seen many communities leave Reddit only to turn into isolated, insular forums on a downward spiral. Everyone still using this site will know what I'm talking about.

We were looking for a platform which supports federation, and while Lemmy isn't there yet, it is the closest thing to achieving that goal and the the upstream developers are working full steam on making it a reality. Meanwhile, the staff of Raddle has been talking shit about the lemmy project, describing it as a "year long temper tantrum." They have a personal grudge against the author because he's an ML, but when you set all that sectarian bullshit aside and look at the work he's doing, it is a vital project for democratizing the Internet and has the potential to do for Reddit what Mastodon did for Twitter.

Finally, if we had thrown caution to the wind and set up chapo on Raddle, there was a strong likelihood that we wouldn't even be allowed to moderate our own community due to the Raddle anarchists being so anti-tankie. This only further highlighted the importance of federated social media to us. Chapo shouldn't be controlled by any one ideology, it has always been a left-unity community.

We decided what was best for maintaining our own autonomy, as well as for the health of a decentralized internet, and the integrity of our revolutionary beliefs was putting our work into Lemmy, which we are convinced has a much stronger future than the alternative because of the controversial people and politics behind the alternative. In the past month we've made over 800 changes to Lemmy, added a reporting feature, user tags, community settings, fixed some security issues, and completely overhauled the user interface.

If you've got issues with the community because of the chaser/pedophile/transphobia drama the wreckers keep bringing up, that's fine. I'm not going to argue that we're perfect - but just understand where we're coming from here. The whole point of the work we're doing is to enable people to chose which communities they want to identify with. The code is AGPL licensed and anybody can take it and set up their own instance, even you anarchists. In fact, we're even expecting this to happen as soon as federation becomes stable - but unlike the other Reddit alternative, this won't isolate people from the communities they enjoy. The anarchists will still be able to join in the discussions with us even though we'd have different home servers. This is the ideal application of the left unity chapo has always strived for. We will be able to keep the imperialist / sectarian stuff off of the main server but the anarchist servers will be able to engage in that kind of talk as long as it doesn't spread to chapo.chat.

So I invite you all to make accounts on the new home for chapos and leave your preconceptions at the door.

Your site doesn't work under Tor. Fix it and maybe I'll come to make fun of you from time to time.

You won't.

You can use Tor and enable JS, they're not mutually exclusive. Kind of defeats the purpose of using Tor, but so does creating an account and being an active poster, it's a fingerprinting nightmare. Anyway, at least one of the Lemmy developers have expressed interest in making instances accessible with JS disabled. It's probably very low on the priority list though, so I wouldn't count on it happening soon.

Hell I have good hardware and the slowness is noticeable. I don't know what exactly is causing it, I'll have to go through the code someday

Why would anyone here want to do that? If any raddle users want to go there, we'd be there. Raddle already exists, why would I exchange this isolated corner of the internet for yours?

Wtf is happening? Can you stop coming over to Raddle in hopes of destroying it or getting people onto your site? I'll be on Raddle until it dies or a real alternative pops up and Lemmy isn't it.

Your site is also broken as fuck, there isn't even a working list of communities.

And yet chapo.chat is admittedly controlled by a bunch of CCP loving bootlickers who think ethnic minorities should be put in concentration camps and be chained together in factories pumping out Nikes for no pay until they abandon their culture.

So chapo.chat is only for dengist rhetoric? Seems to contradict your previous statement, but okay.

This is really starting to feel like a cult. You'll give the people federation when the rapture takes all the true believers to heaven.

You got that right you fucking fascist.

If you keep pushing this red fash shit here I'll make 100 accounts there and put them to good use.

But not before Xi Jinping gives the Chinese communism.

Just 50 more years of suicide nets, billionaires and concentration camps and the state will wither away.

Btw there's no such thing as a tankie controlled project that is "also anarchist". Anyone on that site calling themself an anarchist while helping a literal red fascist spread his CCP propaganda is a fucking liar.

Thanks for posting this. I want to bring up something else. The mod team on chapo.chat at least has a pretty neutral stance on China Good/Bad. Not to say individual mods have their own biases, but the anarchists hold the ML mods accountable and vice versa. On this site the only permitted view is that China is bad. At least on Chapo you get to hear from both positions.

And there are more anarchists on the site than here if we are being fully honest. I may call myself a posadist, cause Dolphins are neat and I want to go to space, but I'm actually a syndicalist, shhhhhhh.

Yes! We have so many anarchists on chapo.chat. It's honestly refreshing having such a diversity of views. And it proves left unity can work if the management works to uphold it.

I'm really glad you guys went with Lemmy instead of Raddle. This place is so toxic and anti-leftist. I don't know why any leftist would come to this site when the mods openly admit to hating us.

PorkrollPosadist OP wrote

It just wouldn't have made sense for us to exist in this ecosystem when nearly everyone on the chapo team is an ML. I don't want to rag on Raddle too much since I came here in peace, but it's not just not the right platform for what we're trying to do at our site. We want to work towards an open society that can really embrace Marxist values and show that leftists can be united towards a common goal.

As you seem to have also noticed, Raddle seems to have a strong individualist streak that turns off even most anarchists, and I believe that is why you anarchists are much more comfortable on chapo.chat than here. All the other anarchists I've spoken to say Raddle is best avoided altogether for various reasons. It really doesn't seem like anyone wants to be here.

I know, all my fellow anarchist comrades have said the same thing. This site is just not worth the trouble. It's filled with sectarian nonsense, like all they talk about is China bad USSR bad NK bad... Enough already.

Yes it's very unfortunate that the anarchists here are so sectarian. The anarchists on chapo.chat are much friendlier and more open to new ideas.

PorkrollPosadist OP wrote

Indeed. I actually have a lot of anarchist friends who are completely accepting of my ML positions and respectful when we debate, which is an entirely different experience than you get on Raddle, where MLs are treated like we are filthy animals.
