I wish ppl would think for themselves instead of waiting for others to make their decisions for them.

Is anyone in there telling them about this place?

from what I've been told, anyone that brings raddle up is quickly shut down because the mods only want them to focus on the site they're making. they're all told to wait patiently until it's ready and not come here.

why anyone gives a shit what a bunch of tankies who did nothing but ban non-tankies from the reddit sub say, idk.

I wish someone they trust would explain to them just how poor lemmy's code is. They're walking into a disaster.

Because the guy who wrote it doesn't know what he's doing. It's like he read the first chapter of Programming For Dummies and decided he was ready to make a social media platform.

The code is so bad that the site completely breaks for hours whenever it gets linked in a semi-popular reddit thread (so they ask people to stop linking to it). The most infamous example of lemmy's inability to function is that database queries alone take 40ms (!!), which is atrociously slow.

There's no way someone this shit at coding is ever going to pull off federation like he promises. It took them more than a year to make something that's fundementally broken under the hood. If it can't handle more than a couple hundred users at this point in the development cycle, it'll never be able to scale to handle federation. The guy is selling the chapo mods magic beans.

Even the earliest versions of postmill (raddle's software) were completely functional and way snappier, more responsive and more lightweight than any other link agg, including reddit. See http://jstpst.net if you want to see what raddle looked like in its first year. We had articles written about us in the media (vice, slashdot, hackernews) and the site didn't even stutter under all that traffic.

Lemmy is the web equivalent of Superman 64.

This is why it's taking a week to launch, the posts on the discord are about programmers examining the code, tearing their hair out, and attempting a rapid rewrite to improve the code so it can handle more than 100 simultaneous users.

But I guess they're in too deep now and can't switch plans to a postmill, let alone raddle, for reasons.

They could have postmill up and running in 20 minutes if they just swallowed their egos - or if they really wanted to swallow their egos, they'd stop trying to 'own' (divide) chapo and come here with the rest of the exiled left. The only condition we have is that tankeis don't get modded because we've had bad experiences with them destroying raddle forums in the past.

If it's about the chapo mods wanting to support a platform made by a leftist, emma is an actual leftist and her platform isn't a garbage fire like lemmy. Then instead of working their asses off to make lemmy's broken code semi-operational, they could put that time into federating Postmill.

If lemmy doesn't even have the basics of being a working forum down, there's no way it's anywhere near ready to be federated. Postmill has been the perfect scalable FOSS forum software for years, and it would be much easier to take it to the next level (federation) with just a couple of volunteers.

A year ago dessalines could have taken postmill's solid base and worked at federating it, but instead he wasted a year trying to approximate what emma managed in the first few weeks of coding postmill, and hasn't got anywhere close.

It's all about ego, both with dessalines and the former chapo mods. God forbid they practice some mutual aid and build on what's already there - no, instead they have to own the exclusive rights to the thing, even if the thing doesn't work.

Leftists should support leftist projects, not try to replace them for reasons that can only be described as vanity.

They could have chapo.chat redirect to https://raddle.me/f/chapotraphouse/

I mean maybe this attitude is why they don't want to come here? I think it'd make sense for leftist devs of all viewpoints to work on contributing to Postmill, but why would MLs want to contribute if they can't even be mods on the main Postmill site?

Tankies aren't leftists, you're buying into their halfassed entryism. The bolsheviks were the right wing of the party. Leftists don't murder socialists and sex workers and send gays to the gulag. They're not socially left by any metric and there's no way they can be considered economically left when they've spent 101 years propping up capitalism and violently suppressing workers who try to organize.

Yeah it's pretty funny how he's thrown a year-long tantrum because he couldn't take basic direction.

Does raddle have any aspirations/plans of becoming federated into activity pub? This whole space is fairly new to me, but I love the idea of self hosting so while lemmy does have issues I support the general goal.

yup, lemmy's code looks like total shit, and the user experience is just abysmal. I tried really hard the past week or so, to give it a fair chance, but it's just literally unusable, especially over tor.

full-JS frontend, who the fuck thought that was a good idea? smh

postmill is such a more performant and mature codebase, if they had any sense at all they'd switch. they won't.

EDIT: after using postmill for ten more minutes and continuing to have a significantly better experience, i'd like to stress just how much more pleasant it is than lemmy. a lot.
