The sub was quarantined because people were saying "slave owners deserved to die". The mods tried to work with the admins to get the quarantine lifted, but were ignored. During the quarantine, the sub grew bigger than ever, warping more and more innocent young minds with subversive anti-capitalist agitprop.

Then CEO spez "bunkerboy" Huffman had a terrifying nightmare where chapos burst into his mansion and liberated his vintage Thundercats action figures for the people. The next day, he ordered the radical left machine be dismantled from reddit's servers and stored away where only darkness can reach.

Welcome to the dark side.

Well, maybe not literally, but probably it's essentially true. Censorship works, sadly.

OK, they were Cabbage Patch Kids, not action figures. I wanted to leave him some dignity.

Damn I have missed this sort of nonsense, what a shame to lose r/cth but your comment gives me hope if something can be built here then it may be a bit blessing in disguise.

Of course we will get full of Libs and no revolution will be planned but at least ill get some memes.

In such a reactionary platform like reddit, it's amazing r/cth lasted as long as it did being as big as it was. They hated the fact that they were hosting a leftist community of over 100k users and they had been looking for an opportunity to ban it for years. With the protests and everything they needed to make a gesture, so they banned T_D and took the opportunity to take out chapo too.

Seeing as the two big subs that got banned were one dead fascist sub (i.e., the only good fascist sub) and one extremely active leftist sub, it's probably more accurate to say they banned chapo and cleared out the corpse of T_D as cover.

PringlesCaliphate wrote

Oh yeah, banning chapo was their priority. They didn't ban t_d even when it was making the news, and now it was basically forgotten. These nyt articles about reddit cracking down on hateful communities are just a bonus for them.

PyotrKropotkin wrote

Absolutely. And the other 2000 "hateful" subs were mostly dead or extremely small (except maybe the terf sub). It's easy to see the big target in that list was Chapo. The only sub putting out a new narrative and gaining traction. "Cracking down on hate" is a distraction. This whole thing was a shameless hit job.

So is Raddle going to be different? This is the first I've ever heard of it and I joined up simply to join this community (and also because the mastodon instance makes no sense to me). From what I understand, this is not owned by a private company and its servers are not in the US?

Yes, it's not owned by a private company and its servers are not in the US. These links can explain raddle way better than me, I'm also pretty new here:

You're absolutely right, I think.

If anything, chapo erred by being too sensitive to minority concerns. That's partially why stupidpol-- the only functional socialist forum I'm aware of on reddit--was birthed. (You should join if you haven't already.) It's insane to claim it was banned for insensitivity to minorities.

And they also banned gender critical, which, even if you don't like it, never did anything like brigade or harass. So, yeah, a purge of leftist thought, and anything controversial for advertisers--who apparently don't mind snuff porn (literally, porn about killing women).

Probably also a way to advertise themselves as the new advertiser friendly corp.

Stupidpol was a useless sub full of "leftists" who think its still cool and funny to be racist. same as cumtown

If they were brigading, that's bad. There's def a brigading, vote manipulation, AstroTurf problem at reddit. But, I' support a "free speech" site that tolerates gender critical thought and "conservative" thought, because then it must tolerate Chapo / socialist thought, too.

As you can see, distinguishing between "hate" and beliefs the powerful don't like is proving a bit difficult for the powerful, and those that are susceptible to their propaganda.

This is so true.

But, the good thing about reddit, a forum where lots of people were centralized, is that they could wonder into your sub and educmacate themselves. Now you're isolated and they can't do that. People can still introduce socialist / environmentalist ideas into corporate forums on a poster by poster basis, but I think they will be censored, as well, by a variety of open and secretive means. And it doesn't work as well as having all the material in one place where people can read it at their own pace.

stupidpol is extremely hit or miss, i't's good to critique liberal identity politics, but they almost always end up in class reductionism. And they all wanna be so edgy that they just sound like chuds. It's the easiest place for fascists to infiltrate and steer the conversation to the right.

Wendigalea OP wrote

That's something to keep in mind for the moderators- no right wing take overs.

Stupidpol is pretty racist I saw them laughing about “joggers” after Armand Arbery was murdered and they banned me for saying cumtown was racist.

Tbf there was a fair bit of “brigading” but that’s also a ridiculous rule — they should ban all government IP addresses from all countries for the same reason if they’re going to be consistent. That place is basically built with fucking astroturf.

Because there are bad people on both sides. Also chapo was distracting from the narrative: orange man bad, senile man good.

Because Chapo was a hate sub and constantly created violent threats against marginalized groups such as landlords
