I'm kinda sad but also feeling silly because a.) I knew it was coming and b.) I feel like it was the largest online left forum for discussion.

Here's to Raddle and their site which is pretty awesome so far. Thanks Raddle!

Why was it coming, exactly? I mean, like, what were the major offenses?

  1. "Slave owners deserved to die"

  2. "John Brown did nothing wrong"

  3. "Biden is a rapist"

That's all of them.

reddit is such a shithole site

"Oh we must ban the_donald and not the sub which now incorporates the majority of its original user base /r/conservative

koolaidooze wrote

it was 100% empty symbolic bullshit, the_donald had been dead for so long

6

ThunderousDemon wrote (edited )

more than dead it literally was fucking locked by its admins for 3 fucking MONTHS. they werent even allowing new posts!!! reddit is scum and that shit was just an excuse to ban cth

thenomeeer wrote

Does anyone remember how much the original sub was growing before it got quarantined? Hell, it was even gaining subs while quarantined

PringlesCaliphate wrote

That's what bothers me the most, it was a proper catch all sub for leftists on reddit. It was nice and presentable enough to bring in people who just like bernie and aoc, while also being a good place for MLs and anarchists to post more radical stuff. It seemed like a decent radicalizing force, despite being on reddit.

koolaidooze wrote

i can personally attest to this, i discovered chapo in 2017 and stayed because i thought the shitposts were funny even though i was a lib and i thought some of it went too far, and now i'm a communist

7

ziq wrote

that's exactly why they had to ban it

twointhepinkerton wrote

Almost as if part of the reason it was shut down to appease the cryptofascist "classical liberals" with which the site is so well-stocked.

what music are you all listening to during the quarantine? any other podcasts? /f/Podcasts

I like TrueAnon for the entertainment. Citations Needed is my favorite all around informative podcast. Oral Presentations is a pretty funny one where a goofy comedian tries to learn a different topic each week and explain it.

LiquidHate777 wrote

I like CN, too, but somehow I don't like that they let the guests talk so much.

TrueAnon pretty funny.

Has anyone listened to Literary Hangover? I keep forgetting to check it out.

LiquidHate777 wrote (edited )

will check out, if I remember I'll answer

edit: wait, that even a thing?

I started listening to TrashFuture, which is every bit as funny as peak Chapo. Start at the beginning, it's hilarious from the get-go. As for music, mostly third wave ska, emo, and prog metal.

6

koolaidooze wrote (edited )

i've gotten big into king gizzard & the lizard wizard and jack stauber recently

edit: TWRP is also pretty good. very underrated.

All the info about us is in the wiki.

w/history

w/QnA_with_Emma

w/faq

w/what_is_wrong_with_reddit

Me and emma are the co-founders, she's a socialist and I'm an anarchist, and tequila_wolf and mofongo are the other admins, tequila is an anarchist and mofongo is a socialist.

Glad I found this! I was starting to really get into posting instead of just reading posts over like right before the ban happened. Ty comrades

Hope you continue that good habit here.

koolaidooze wrote

this is cool, hope it takes off. i'm mostly just looking for a good replacement for the megathread honestly, it was pretty much the only thing i visited CTH for.

4

Kmaplbs9 wrote (edited )

The discord #general-megathread stream is like the megathread on crack, if you’re interested.

2

TheDeed OP wrote

Discord moves way too fast for an old man like me

6

koolaidooze wrote

agree, i'm also not a fan of how disorganized it is. i like having contained comment threads.

i'll still probably use it anyway though lol

5

Kmaplbs9 wrote (edited )

Yeah, it’s like that for a lot of people lol. They made two other slow mode megathreads to try to address it, so maybe that’ll work. Here’s the link anyway, if a online is interested

The only thing I don't like about this place is the "collapse thread" button is on the right.

Most of it is just basic marxism, and a bit of lenin. It's 3 links, chill. And if you're calling Marx a tankie, then you might just be a lib.

TheDeed OP wrote

Honestly I literally just copy pasted the body of a web archived megathread from Reddit, I’d be lying if I said I have read more than three of those. I’m more of an anarchist tbh.

I have posted another megathread but please give me suggestions for other things to read to put in there. I have zero authority and I’m just posting megathreads cuz I miss em
