Hey guys, newbie here. How the heck do you justify your new stuff to your family/spouse? My husband works full-time but we live mostly paycheck to paycheck and all the money from his work goes to an account that he doesn't share with me. My personal checking account however he has access to and gets notified every time I make a purchase. So it's not like the money I spend (or don't spend;) would go unnoticed by him. We filed for bankruptcy last year and I've been irresponsible with money in the past so that's why he doesn't share tons with me BUT he does send me what I need through venmo every week or so. Anyways, we are religious too and he may have an idea that I've gotten some stuff for free but hasn't questioned stuff like body soap, lotion, etc. Just wondering what you may have come up with to tell someone when they ask how you bought it or where this new stuff came from all of a sudden. Thanks!!

Does he compulsively check your bank account? This sounds like a way to breed mistrust in the family. I would, personally, tell him what I'm doing. Otherwise I would have to contract an extremely elaborate web of lies to placate him.

If you want the web though: You could lift and then sell on eBay and use those funds to legitimately purchase what you want. If he ever questions what you're selling say that you got it on sale.

I am an Amazon reviewer for a few Facebook groups actually and have gotten plenty of those random packages, but the stuff I get from the store would be pretty different than stuff I get in those packages. But that still might work for things that I wouldn't get in a grocery store/random other things. Thank you for the tip!

Yeah, I had a complicated pregnancy and labor when our son was born and we had over 10k in medical bills that we couldn't afford to pay. Also student loans, credit card debt, etc so it helped us a lot but he's still not super happy we did it. Hopefully he's more appreciative in a few years though... And I'm glad you guys have a good system- that's pretty cool. I'm definitely not planning to get things that I won't ever actually need. Mostly makeup/skincare/hair stuff, diapers, food, clothes. I win lots of Instagram giveaways so I'm thinking I can just make it look like I won a bunch of stuff if he asks...

This is one of the questions that'd do well in a shoplifting FAQ.

He does not compulsively check the account but just gets an email when the card is used. And yeah, I feel bad not telling him the truth but I think I'm just gonna keep it up for a few more months and then stop. And only get necessities like groceries, clothes, shoes, and hygeine products. Thanks for the tip!

You could re-use some old packaging. Like when soap gets low, just refill it with some new product.
