Highway obstruction is something that protest organisations often do to make their point. Is it worth the risk? Here in the UK a new change to the law that is coming up, will mean that once passed, (at least on a motorway or arterial route) you could face imprisonment for a period of no more than 51 weeks. Whereas now you can only be fined up to £1000. Will it still be worth the risk to make a point when out protesting as part of a group?

That is a lot of time potentially.

Out of tactics that aren't desertion, it seems to be considered one of the more meaningful/substantive kinds of protest. I'm curious to hear what other people say.

It depends also on your broader support and how likely you are to get away with it.
