Visit with the professor and ask them if you can audit their class. Let them know you do not intend to submit homework or do anything to cause them extra work. I have done this over the past 20 years and never had a professor refuse.

When i went to a big state school ( > 30,000 undergrads), i'd say any class with more than 100, and most professors couldnt care less as long as the classroom isnt full (classes will almost never fill up all of the seats in a big lecture hall, and after a lecture or two, at least a 5th of the students stop showing up other than on exam days). We didnt have any security, anyone coulda walked in and i wouldnt have noticed and lord knows the professors didnt give a shit unless there werent seats for people actually enrolled in the course. When i went to a local community college (and im presuming this will hold for smaller colleges as well) it would be much more difficult because we had classes of ~20 students. I would say if someone were to try this, their best bet is to stick to lectures of 100+ people (more than 60 is also probably fine but not as sure), make sure not to show up for exam days, and check a minute or two before class starts to make sure there are enough seats for the 10-15 people minimum who will show up late. If someone was caught sitting in on a class they werent signed up for, they could probably get out of it just by saying that they were taking the class in a future semester and just wanted to sit in so they knew what they were doing when they got into the class. Same excuse would be helpful if there is an assignment in class that you have to hand in. I know if i had wanted to sit in on a class at my state school that i would have posted in the school subreddit to see which teacher teaching the course might let me sit in or wont notice if i do (i wouldnt mention my enrollment status if i wasnt actually enrolled in the school). I also might just email the teacher directly and ask to sit in bc either im interested in the class or im taking it in a future semester and want to learn the material so i have a better understanding for when i take the class.

No professor will give a shit if you sit in, like not even bat an eye. If you’re really anxious though you could try to explain your situation and 90% of the time the professors will let you sit in, and if they don’t you can just find a different lecture.

You can easily attend lectures, at the beginning of the year. Even if the teacher sees that you're their student, they probably won't care as long as there are enough chairs for everybody and you're not noisy. If you get caught, you can tell the teacher you got the wrong room or even tell them you're a student from another major and want to attend their lectures. They'll probably agree.

I've sneaked in friends for lectures and there was no problem. Although I'm in a country where colleges are public and free so that's not like USA.

Hi, I am sure that the situation is not easy, it is not familiar to me, but I am sure that you need to set goals to go to them, in a legal way, just more work, more effort. For your development, I recommend reading the example The Things They Carried Essays from the interesting book by Tim O'Brien's, because the more you read, the easier it will be for you to understand many things, write your own materials and develop in general, good luck, may everything be fine!
