Most city and neighborhood ordinances require home owners and renters to maintain these plots as only lawns. But thanks to the popularity of urban farming over the past decade a lot of city's and states here in the United Snakes are now passing laws "allowing"(Why were all these people asking permission in the first place?) vegetable farming. It's still absolutely disheartening that a sustainable permaculture yard of native plant and insects species is regarded as unkempt and overgrown weeds when the alternative is a lawn. A lawn has absolutely zero benefits and a plethora of negative environmental and ecological impacts to insects, plants, human and non-human animals, and is generally disastrous to surrounding eco-systems.
