i’m pretty sure graeber talks about the unnecessary nature of a lot of it in bullshit jobs. not that places couldn’t exist that cook food for others, but the servers, the people who seat you, who take your order, etc. it’s so unnecessary. we can do all that shit ourselves. we can go to the kitchen and serve up our own food. we can go and wash our own individual plate after. you’re right. the jobs exist just to be there and in this case to wait on you the way a servant would for rich lords in the past.

other people can help them? if i visit with a disabled person i can get their food for them and wash their dish. if they go alone, i’m sure the cook wouldn’t mind serving the occasional dish in that circumstance, or maybe some other customers could do it.
