Is there an article on the opposite? I see it pretty often, with people saying 'black' but without actually directly saying 'black'.

Though I also wanna note 'coal workers' are actually pretty diverse depending on the state; there used to even be a stereotype about black people being coal workers and going on strike, which was repeated by several state governors. Its still a pretty diverse field when you leave the already ethnically heterogenous states.

...I don't keep up on American politics so it probably is just slang for 'white people' since it draws images of West Virginia, though.
