corrected for weight and lifestyle and sufficient calcium intake vegans are about as likely as anyone to break a bone.

calcium has a plateau after which higher intake doesn't affect bone health that much anymore.

I went vegan 3 years ago and had never broken a bone, and earlier this year I fractured my ankle, so this is pretty much confirmed

I never broke any bone despite a few severe accidents, and never been a big meat eater.
Bone density appears to be a genetic thing, despite being improvable with regular doses of calcium, proteins and fibers.

Yes because a) vegans don't typically have as big a fat layer to protect their bones when they fall and b) without all that extra weight applying pressure to our bones 24/7, our bones don't bulk up in response. It's more about those factors than a lack of protein and calcium since vegans tend to get both of those in abundance from beans, leafy greens, etc.
