If I rember correctly a large part of this is caused by how often the hens have to lay eggs. They are constantly low in nutrition due to constantly having to make eggs. If they are allowed hens eat unfertilized eggs to replinish their vitamins. The constant calcium deicits to make egg shells constantly prob causes their bones to be so weak.
