I'm not sure why the boomers thought they could stop planting trees, whose shade they would knowingly never benefit from, but it's glaring in the modern US. They are all too willing to sell out their own children's futures for comfortable retirements and political pinings of yesteryear, and gen X, millennials and onward are all looking forward to bleak futures because of the boomer's selfish and short-sighted delusions.
