You can camp for free on blm land on except where its explicitly not allowed. I think generally you are allowed to stay in the same place for 2 weeks in a month long period. So it's theoretically possible to nomad around blm land. I believe this also goes for national forest service land. The blm ( and forest service)definitely has its own law enforcement. There is plenty of great nature on blm land.

Oh yeah. Tho BLM has about 200 cops. Which is ovi not enough to enforce the law on a quarter billion acres.
I heard about it because homeless people often advocate for going on BLM land as it's a massive upgrade to city homeless. I've also seen van life people talk it up a lot.
Plus there is a movement of people who off road camp deep into BLM land where you are really hard to get to.
