Not weird. It's pretty standard to try and frame LGBTQ+ folks as pedophiles, AIDs spreaders, rapists, ect. It's the same old, nothing new.

What's weird is having to explain it to a prepubescent child, but I guess they probably have parenting books and apps for that and my age is showing.

Idk I'm pretty young and it was only the bigots that had those ideas. None of the kids bought into it as far as I know, some homophobia but the pedo thing was never mainstream.

It's a thing for channers to circlejerk to I wont gain any traction because it's so ridiculous

I hope you're right and that I'm underestimating my grandkid-aged minor.

I've had my innocent little kids' forums reported as pedo sites when all they were talking about was their pets and homework and what got I got banned from Facebook for was a very carefully framed and innocent picture of a toddler playing in the bathtub, cropped below their umbilical hernia.

That makes me wish I could paddywhack my adult kids if they so much as THINK about talking to a minor on the internet.

It's a balancing act. I think 16+ is a reasonable requirement for opening an account at Raddle under the circumstances. Some fifteen year olds might be mature enough to fly under the radar and some seventeen year olds might not be ready to deal with the emotional weight of the content, but 16+ is not unreasonable as far as what the web looks like to us parents and our digital native cubs right now.

ETA: It's almost funny that I forgot to mention that we are NOT EVEN GAY!!!!!! It's everybody on the left; cis privilege didn't do a damned thing to help when it came to radical parenting activism before and during #Occupy.

ETAA: I wouldn't really physically abuse my adult kids, lol. I'm very hands-off with the minor and don't use parental control software for philosophical reasons so I'm probably coming off a bit more melodramatic than I need to be. If there are any people under sixteen on Raddle I'm not going to rat you out for no good reason, I just want you to know why you need to be careful.

Children are pretty unbiased and don't have any prejudices until its taught to them. Your kids are probably fine.

Scores of people on reddit have bought into 'pedosexual' propaganda peddled there and on facebook.

But do any normies buy into it? I only see that kind of stuff on crazy right winger pages, regular old transphobia /homophobia is popular sure, but is the pedo stuff catching on?

Thank you.

This came up again in my personal life yesterday and is why I believe Raddle absolutely needs to enforce the existing TOS age requirements. I don't want my minor child here because it puts other people at too much risk.

Unfortunately, this means that we're losing a lot of talent and the energy that teens have and oldsters don't. It also means a generation of 16 or 18 year olds who are going to be......um.....rather emotionally stunted in the eyes of those of us who grew up in an era where mixed age groups were the norm.

Unfortunately, it is a hard reality of the world we live in. Parents need to tell their kids, no matter how hard it is to find age-appropriate language. It isn't da childernz we need to protect, it's da grownupz, and the kids are going to be working against us if they don't know why.
