SPOILERSAHEAD: not blocking since its a necropost on a 30yr old show and whose gonna come here but others whove watched.

Incorrect.

  • Do you know what immediately followed the puppet episode? The most gut wrenching character death in tv history. On rewatches, the puppet episode is tinged with the horror that is to come. Oh yeah, and what do the puppets do? They eat children's souls while the parents arent watching and they do this en masse. And they have done it for years. But, muh, puppets are silly?

I have a whole bullet point list if every analogous event in buffy and the angel version always comes out: we just lost, we lost big, we never even knew we were losing even when we won- all leads up to the btvs finale of an uplifting message of hope fir the future and angel finale: i won't spoil it but watch the last episode of each and it is check fucking mate angel is the darkest.

Conner's arc, taken alone, is darker than anything in Buffy. I like both, rewatch them annually, though angel is my favorite of the two.

Idk, I think it was an uplifting ending. They brought all the dark forces that run the world into the light of day, kicking and screaming. Sure, they probably all died after it cut to black, but they died destroying authority. It's like making everyone in the world suddenly aware that their rulers are hellspawn. They created anarchy.

I actually love the ending and find it cathartic after their seasin long lesson in fighting from within evil law firm and making devils bargains right and left- But still, about to make one last stand versus beating apocalypse number nine and on to the next now, with a whole new team of slayers, seems darker. I guess i don't see dark and uplifting as opposed, or more like dark can uplift me.
