I find myself compelled by arguments that work - wait, "work" has ugly connotations in capitalism and socialism, say instead maybe... gainful effort? - should be joyful.

I daydream of homesteading. I'm sure the volume of gainful effort (again, avoiding the poisoned term 'work') is substantial, but I find the idea of tending plants for my own food, and harvesting and storing it, appealing.

I program as a day job, and I don't have the energy to program for fun outside my fucking ~40 hour work week. But if I was, say, able to support myself on part time work or less that didn't involve programming, I am positive that programming for fun would be a joyful thing for me.
