This is one of hose things that always makes me think about the masses of people who don't think like me at all. The fact that they exist. And the fact that our collective existence is contingent on each other. And its scary...but real.

How did I get stuck in the Joe Rogan bubble and how do I escape it. I get nothing but folk punk and libertarian bro philosophy. Bad bubble.

I painstakingly cleared my YouTube watch history and other playlists and put my watch history on pause. It was a long but rewarding process. Thankfully alternative frontends to YouTube like invidio.us and NewPipe exist. They have their own algorithm for suggestions I think but at least YouTube doesn't really benefit from it, as much at least.

Oh, did that work? I just assumed they track all that shit regardless of if it's in your history or not. These sites often create a user profile & suggestions for you even if you don't have an account.

It did but I also began using adblockers and sought alternatives to Chrome and other Google services too, or I got lucky at the very least.

I would have also stopped liking or interacting with those videos too or anything that may garner such results. I've managed to change my algorithm so now I tend to get educational videos that aren't strongly politically inclined.

they do, however invidio.us runs on at least a partially free license. it's possible the creator tracks anyway, and if you forget to turn on Proxy Videos then youtube can track you individually, however if neither of these are true then i think it would be difficult to track. at that point, all i can think of is the screen resolution size, browser headers, MAC address, and other identifiers baked in to the browser software, host OS, etc

no problem, i think that feature is turned off to increase speed of the videos loading, because i notice it is slow when you turn that on. so I would recommend using medium or small video quality when you proxy, the default HD720p is a little touch and go with the proxy option.

Based Foodie

Here, try mine!

  • chill music mixes
  • commentary on politics and pop culture
  • nerdy comedy skits
  • reactions

What if we started a challenge where people had to watch something from outside of their thought bubble, like look for videos contradicting their point of view?

Fun new game: Name my Bubble. - Following bloodrose :)

My recommendations include:

  • at least 50% of music videos of the most varieties of genre;
  • Joe Rogan garbage;
  • black and white Martial Arts videos
  • philosophy lectures (including Allan Watts, Terence Mckenna, and pretty obscure stuff);
  • Skate tapes;
  • art tutorials;

_ PS: took years to avoid sports, celebrity, or Tv related junk in my feed. Now I am working to get rid of Jordar Peterson / Joe Rogan and the bad stuff that come to martial arts related.
