Ricochet: Anonymous and metadata free instant messaging using Tor onion services ricochet.im

Submitted by quandyalaterreux in Tech

Ricochet is a different approach to instant messaging that doesn’t trust anyone in protecting your privacy.

  • Eliminate metadata. Nobody knows who you are, who you talk to, or what you say.
  • Stay anonymous. Share what you want, without sharing your identity and location.
  • Nobody in the middle. There are no servers to monitor, censor, or hack.
  • Safe by default. Security isn’t secure until it’s automatic and easy to use.

Basically everyone becomes a Tor onion service and gets a unique "exampleexample32.onion" address, and that's the ID that is used to communicate with everyone else.

One problem with this approach is that it's asynchronous and requires that both parties be online at the time of communication.

It doesn't have integrated file sharing yet but one can use it in conjunction with OnionShare.

as always with those type of software. That's cool, but if your friends don't want to move over there, it is useless. Who use it here ?
