I am so much gonna make an extension like that!

Structural issue: it must allow for anonymization, which will limit throughput and thus ddos effectiveness.

I am interested to hear proposals for how to overcome this both technically and insofar as how to get this ext to comply with mozilla extension policies and be published online without censorship

Thanks for the idea.

I'm not sure how effective it will be but props to Mozilla reviewers for approving it.

I couldn't be bothered to add VPN or proxy as I think that's better configured elsewhere (in browser or OS settings). But I did put in this suggested target feature which is the same everywhere as it is not completely random but based on the UTC date, and put small random modifications to the query strings to maximize the amount of cache misses if a web cache like Varnish is used.

Sure. Part of this could be for people to use a VPN, and part of it could be using a container-like apporach for the requests to avoid sending pre-existing cookies.

That's an interesting one. Mozilla is currently allowing some extensions which are down a similar path. TrackMeNot and AdNauseum are specifically designed to flood advertising companies and search engines with phony data.

Even if they should choose to block it, I believe Firefox isn't much of a walled garden so it could be made available outside the Mozilla extensions page. If all else fails, it could be loaded through Grease Monkey although that would make it less accessible.

One thing I love about AdNauseum is the collage it makes of advertisements that it "clicks" along with the estimated cost of those ad clicks. It's important to consider the aesthetics.

A VPN does NOT provide any real level of anonymity.

There's also this, and the face that a VPN or any other form of anonymization that I am familiar with will limit how much data is able to be pushed through the network. So my original point is still kinda unanswered imo

Perhaps the VPN could be bundled into the extension?

I'm not going to add VPN as I would consider that beyond scope. It's a browser extension so you can run it in Tor Browser if you please.

I wonder which list of companies to use? Perhaps this is a reasonable starting point?
