On further inspection he was just part of groups which were pro-soviet, while never personally supporting them.

He wrote articles for a Soviet funded newspaper, and part of Labour for Peace which was largely Pro-Soviet.

I think he is now showing a more nuanced understanding of the Soviet Union, but he was definitely in support of Trotsky previously.
