The court instructed our legal team and the municipality to conduct an inspection at the occupation. This was done and houses of the people were numbered which ensures that the municipality will not evict Abahlali from the occupation.

This occupation has come at a heavy price. Many of our comrades were shot with rubber bullets and live ammunition. As is the case in many of our occupations we have also lost a comrade in this occupation. Senzo Gumede was murdered while walking back to his house. This comes after he was threatened by the local taxi bosses who complained about his role in organising the road blockades used to defend this occupation.

The celebration will include the slaughter of a cow as a symbol of our victory.

We continue to win land from below via the organisation and mobilisation of the oppressed by the oppressed.
