How can non-Democratic-Socialism even function in the 'West' these days?

Submitted by lori in Socialism (edited )

These states are well-established and a revolution in any of them would likely take millions of lives and ultimately fail, given the arms afforded to the military and the rich specifically. A general strike seems impossible when all the work can be outsourced at gunpoint. Dual power seems impossible when they can simply arrest everyone and scuttle it all. Even Democratic Socialism seems difficult when the army can step in.

What options are there other than mutual aid networks intended to offer support and attempts to democratically reform things?

The title question is a bit unclear to me, can you rephrase

I don't feel like we can talk about western states like they are similar enough. The US is far too different from Finland

a revolution in any of them would likely take millions of lives and ultimately fail

by revolution do you mean open armed war against the state?

all the work can be outsourced at gunpoint

please clarify what you mean by "at gunpoint"
All work couldn't be outsourced, so far as I understand, could you elaborate on that

I have more things I'm confused about here but I'll leave it at this

Yeah, but in regards to the state of things such as 'overthrowing the government' they all have the same force against people seeking to do such from outside.

I suppose so, yeah. A lot of leftists fetishize the idea. Though, really any violent uprising.

please clarify what you mean by "at gunpoint"

Not quite literally, but most work can be moved to Indonesia, India, or Vietnam for pennies pay, especially if workers in, say, America went on strike long enough that it seemed like a better idea.

Your question is exactly what they want people to think. It puts fear into your mind. And unfortunately considering society is brainwashed I don't think I'll live to see a revolution, and regardless the destruction and devastation that has been caused by man on Earth is irreversible in many ways. But, I function by not conforming or letting the government take away my real freedom so I live how I want without barriers. If you find a solution I'd love to know
