Tagging experience at walmart gone wrong

Submitted by Fukmylife69 in Shoplifting (edited )

So, I'm new to all this but found a tutorial on the darkweb about "Tagging" which is basically a slightly more advanced version of barcode switching where you're looking up the UPC for a product beforehand and printing out the barcode on a shipping label to tag on the item you want to scan beforehand and then running it through self-checkout with the label you printed of a much lower priced item...in other words it saves you the hassle of taking the barcode off another item first. So it seemed simple and foolproof enough to try as long as the walmart doesn't have anyone checking receipts which the one i usually go to doesn't.

My accomplice and I decide to try it. Now, I knew it'd probably be best to use some tricks like one of us tagging it a day or two prior to the other buying it and of course going to one in a completely different area from where I usually shop, but I got cocky and figured we'd get away with it at least the first time without going through that. So, we go there on a day I don't normally go on, but as usual there's no one at the exit checking receipts so I figured it's go time. We put the item in our cart which is a bigger box item. Then we go get some other items we intended to actually pay for, and then we went to the craft section where I learned there are no visible cameras from a previous scope out and placed the barcode on it. We go through checkout and ring it all up which goes fine, but now there happens to be an 80 year old lady at the exit checking receipts. She stops us to check our receipt which was a hiccup I was not expecting at all. Since they could easily figure out my real identity because I went to the one I normally shop at like a dumbass I decided to cooperate. I used walmart pay so we showed her that and of course she saw all the items but the large one and we acted like we weren't sure why it wasn't on there and said we did notice it rang up weird. I then lose the receipt off the app and pretend I don't know how to bring it back up on my phone. She leaves us at the door to go talk to the self-checkout people who don't know how to help her, and then she takes us to the customer service person to try to pull up the receipt, but she's busy and doesn't want to deal with it without us getting in a long line. We act like we don't have time to deal with it and just dumped the large item there and left. No one followed us or tried to stop us. Anyways, my question is do you think they had hidden cameras that saw us place the barcode on, or were we just suspicious, or were we just the victims of unfortunate timing since maybe they always have a person there at that time and I just didn't know that?

Things I learned.....I won't be going to that walmart for quite a while now lol. Also, no matter how foolproof a method seems don't get too confident and skip some basic steps like not shitting where you eat! Also, I won't be trying it again without having a fake receipt ready beforehand.

The mistake you made, is stopping when she asked you to stop... when I approach the door, I make the commitment to walk out that door, with the merchandise, no matter what happens. They can’t put their hands on you if the alarm goes off, or if you ignore the receipt checker. They have to physically see you conceal merchandise or put the false label on it. Hidden cameras are more obvious than you may think too, and if they saw you the receipt checker wouldn’t have stopped you. It would’ve been lp grabbing your wrist in the parking lot.

I messaged Lurkerz1 to respond to this. I basically adapted this attitude from him. I’ve never been caught in 9 years and I think he’s even more successful than me because of this attitude. He won’t even stop when lp grabs his wrist. Lol.

He’s walked out with so much merchandise. People yelling at him to stop. Lp chasing him. You name it. He always gets away tho

Yeah it was just unfortunate timing because if they did see you beforehand they wouldn't have had the old lady be the one stopping you cause what if you get violent or simply verbally snapped at her...you just got unlucky because she is probably super dedicated to her job given her age and she caught the switch. Bottom line you literally got away with it 100% but you fucked up by literally giving yourself up so easily. It literally would have been as simple as "Sorry ma'am family emergency I dont have time for this" while you just continue on by and nothing would have came of it. In FACT now you made yourself more suspicious doing what you did instead of just doing what I explained.

Gotcha, I suspected that to be the case, and I'm still mad at myself for not ignoring her lol. Live and learn.

Don't stop for the receipt checker. It might be awkward but they'll get over.Try to be nice as they are just doing their job but you have no obligation to stop.

Question: what was the item on which you placed the new barcode? And what item was linked to the 'new' barcode?

Lol. Why did you use Walmart pay.

Just pay in cash. So there is no what they trace t back to you.

I agree that was a dumb thing to do, but since I shop there all the time using walmart pay or credit cards I figured they could easily figure out my identity anyways. I was being careless since I thought no one would be checking receipts anyway and if it went well then I'd bother going to other areas to do it instead lol. Plus I thought I had plausible deniability on my side anyways. And in this case it kind of helped to use the app since I could pretend like I didn't know how to pull up the receipt, and apparently they didn't know how either lol. But yeah, it was too close of a call for my comfort, and I won't be assuming anything is foolproof from now on.
