Types of RFID Tag Help

Submitted by Thorne in Shoplifting

Can anyone find a video or help me with identifying what magnets are needed with what tags? I have a 15k gauge, a hook, and an s3 key and yet in certain stores the long skinny tags I cannot seem to take off, specifically on clothing.

To quote DrShoplifter:

if a tag has the alpha logo on it, it can be removed with s3 key

Alpha being Alpha High Security Solutions

What kind of 'long skinny tags'? Is it any of the ones on the Terminology Guide? Let me know, and I'll see what information I can give,

I didn't even see that guide damn. It's a gator tag, no clue how to get them off.

Wrap a rubber band around the pin several times and keep twisting it off. If that doesn't work take 2 pliers, put them on each end of the tag and bend downwards. Pin should pop right off.

No Magnet will work?

Unlikely, considering it's a piece of plastic with a pin.

so how do you remove these? you carry pliers with you or do you avoid them.

I don't carry pliers with me, but if you don't want to look suspicious do the rubber band method in a dressing room.

so detaching this manually won't set off alarms?

If you take the gator tag off and are certain there's no other hidden tags anywhere, then you're golden. Take gator tag off, search for hidden tags, dispose of all tags and get out. It's probably not that easy though, so be aware of LP and dressing room counters, if you're going to take the dressing room method.

Also be aware that if you set off the alarms, employees cannot stop you just for the alarm. They may say come back but ignore them. The only way they can stop you is if they saw you conceal or steal, so be smart.

Best of luck and happy lifting!

Thief is correct about the gator tag. And if the alarm does go off and you missed a hidden tag, keep walking and ignore the employees telling you to stop. They can’t detain you without proof.

Ask if they’re formally apprehending you for shoplifting. They will say no probably and you should walk. If they say yes then ask what it was that you are supposed to have stolen. Obviously they won’t know so ask how they know you stole without seeing what you took and seeing you conceal it.

Edit: I also like to make the excuse that it’s my carry gun setting off the alarm. And I don’t want them to look in my bag because there’s a gun in it.
