Pet store keys (fish and reptiles)

Submitted by 0siris in Shoplifting

So I have quite a few setups ready for animals with all the essentials (uvb/uva lighting, heating, etc) set up for reptiles. But I would rather swipe a $100 snake than pay for it. Does anyone know what locks petland/PetSmart uses on there reptile dispkays? And would it be easier to try and steal a keg and unlock it or pick it?

Is it locked? really? locks are very easy to pick open and can be picked open as fast as a key can open them. Put a little torsion on the lock and swipe your tool in there a couple times like you would swipe a credit card. it'll open right up.

Some of the small padlock often have all the same key. Look at the brand, find a store that sells the same lock with the same size key, get it, the key likely would work without hassle.

Then return the padlock for refund, say it's too small and doesn't fit.

As in insert the tension wrench and rake the pick in there a couple times ? And yes the displays are locked with a basic lock, doesn't look hard but I've never lock picked.

It’s easy as fuck. You’ll get it the first time, trust me

Alright thanks! If you could, is there a good way to ensure that the employee won't go to where I am. Like asking for service/help then pretending to normally shop. The petland I'm planning only has cameras on the rodents, but it's pretty easy for an employee to spot me if they walked past seeing the way the reptile area is built.

I don't feel comfortable with putting an animal in my pocket. There is too much risk involved and animals are not objects. I am terrified of lifters hurting the animals trying to lift them.

I personally put the animals I lift in my backpack, which I usually take out as soon as I get a safe distance from the store if that makes you feel any better.

Also make sure it's actually for sale and not someone's pet. Pet stores around here sometimes have people's lizards on display.

I've made sure, the stores in my city rarely do that anyway. And if they are it's usually a hero the store bought from a clutch of eggs the original owner had.

You just pocket the pet. They'll pull it out and bag it or box it for young and let you walk to the front. But golden rule is never steal the last one. Steal the setup first then go for the pet. most stores only carry one or two of a lizard or snake. After you get the pet don't ever go back to that's store

Another thing they do where I live is that they make you sign a consent form agreeing the risks of purchasing a small animal. I'd rather not have my name on record in case I get caught. The workers there are gullible so if I can usually lie my way out if I get caught. But if I have a record down i can't do that

The store I go to rarely has people at the cashier, do you think if I stuck a receipt on a terrarium o could walk out. There's only cameras on the register and the rodents with open top cages. But I could keep my back to the camera pretty easy if I'm walking out. I go to the petland I usually steal from a decent amount ,but I never interact with employees unless it's absolutely necessary. Is there a reason I shouldn't go back if they have no good cameras?

Yeah that's how I got my gigantic fx6 filter out. Put it in cart out of sight of the cashier but as close to the door as possible then wait. Wait for the cashier to leave the register, then haul ass

Luckily for me I'm a competitive track athlete so I doubt I'll need a cart, should I go for bigger chains like pet smart. Or idk if it's in different cities but Pisces is my main place rn

As long as it's not a mom and pop shop. I split my lifts between petco and petsmart. When hauling ass be smart about it, if you see other customers, casually stroll, then get to the far side of your car and put that shit in and go.
