question about new ULTA towers

Submitted by ifthreewerenine in Shoplifting

I know that there are only like four people active on this forum, and I doubt any of them are women or steal cosmetics, but it's worth a shot...

Hit a brand new (as in built within the last year) Ulta and grabbed a handful of things. A few blushes, a palette, etc... Left without paying for anything (usually I need cotton balls or something and feel less sus paying for at least one thing) but this time I was in a rush.

I am always very thorough when slipping items in my bag - palettes I will unbox carefully to check for sticker sensors.

But still, the towers rang when I left. When I got home I examined every item in my bag inside and out. Nothing. What the fuck caused the towers to ring? I was the only person anywhere near the towers when I left. I'm pissed, because it's the Ulta closest to my house, and now I can't go there for a few months lol

I know towers are faulty sometimes, but the towers didn't ring when I walked IN.

You could have hidden rfid tag, like a special sticker, or got one stuck on you? Also check, somethings you other security tags from other stores stuck on you, i had this happen to me several times.

I don't lift cosmetics but I lifted some markers and they went off when I walked out. Turned out there was a sticker with really thin metal foil stuff that set it off. I wasn't very careful because I didn't even check but it looked like an ordinary sticker. Idk maybe you weren't thorough enough or maybe they have extra sneaky hidden stickers. If you're serious get a booster bag

I always use a faraday bag. Tags can be hidden pretty much anywhere.

Hey, I'm a woman and I lift cosmetics among other stuff. I'm in the UK so not familiar with Ulta, however over here in similar stores like Superdrug, they have RFID tags hidden within the STICKER on the item. When you peel the sticker off you see silver lines, this is a tag. Could it perhaps be something similar to this?

Nah, I'm well familiar with the stickers this Ulta uses. There were no stickers on ANY of these items (obvious RFID or regular stickers), which is why I'm stumped.

Came here to say this. I personally lift at Sephora and not Ulta, and I've never run into any tagged products.

The Ulta near me puts those huge, square, screamy tags on all of their palettes.
