If people are ever going to be immortal, it will be on a microchip, not in a physical body.

Is that seriously your biggest concern? In any scalable posthuman mind-uploading scheme, the resources saved by switching from inefficient meatbodies to microchips would be massive.

I have to agree with zorblax. There are more than a few sources of energy all around us. It's a matter of how well we can harvest it (maybe combine the energy from multiple sources). With the miniaturization of technology, it feels pretty real to imagine.

"Microchip" is just a manner of speak. Getting into the SCI-FI realm, I would imagine we would exist as disembodied computer programs, attaching to any physical device we can find and using it to explore the world. A giant network of moving parts, ever expanding throughout the universe (hopefully decentralized).

Perhaps aliens wouldn't come in spaceships, but as digital data.

But that's going too far from the subject. Anyway, biological immortality seems less feasible than digital transcendence nowadays.

I understand. But we shouldn't elaborate further on this, because we're just conjecturing how energy-hungry our technology would be. It might become less "power hungry" if our devices improve how they use it. Or more, as you said.

Actually, we should move our attention to the current energy problems. I have since a child been eager for future technology and space exploration. But seeing what the world is becoming just made me a tad more sad and angry.

Now I keep thinking that it will all be used by the rich only.

I would say all these gadgets we apply to our bodies to improve our functions are pretty transhumanist, like smart glasses, watches, electronic pills that monitor body function and more. What we're talking about is the amplification of this. Projected into the future. A prediction based on what exist now, actually.

It's not like imagining time travel. Transhumanism's got a lot more examples in our current world.

Could you point out what exactly makes it inaccurate? I mean, is it worth discussing? Aren't we getting into some dark area of conjecturing about conjectures, which will lead nowhere, since we're all giving our personal opinions here?

OK, I get it. You think it's not going to happen for "x" reasons. I think it will happen because of "x" reasons. That's why I said discussing it like this won't get us anywhere.
