State forms scare me. So I think that when we look at the history of maroon communities that are actually able to create those complicated state forms, they are in a domain of politics where they are involved in these 'treaty-forms' slaveholding powers so, for me, the petit-marronage is actually more consonant with my own thinking about a history of anarchist projects which have always described how we have lived. The decentred, 'headless' societies - and it seems that there's a kind of potentiality there as opposed to making an alternative that has to be legible within the terms of the given; like "Our policy to counter their policy".
