In my experience (ten years wage slaving in schools now) teachers are not always bullies, but they are more or less always deeply authoritarian. Either authoritarian as in they want to be an authority, or authoritarian as in they want to submit to an authority. The latter is more common.

There are a few (maybe one in ten, prob fewer) who are genuinely okay. They're usually younger teachers who'll sooner or later be forced out of the profession

My child is homeschooled. Home educated we call it, because our home is nothing like a school. Not sure how feasible it is to keep it up long term, but my reasoning is the longer they're out of schools the better.

Hope your child is getting on okay. Solidarity

Do you have more than one local school available? My advice to parents is always keep the option of moving schools in mind. Kids adapt to the change quickly, and the harm of moving is minimal compared to the harm of being stuck in a dictator's classroom for a year

they've rotated so many subs

Most parents would think this is a negative, but we anti-authoritarians know otherwise :)
