I want to beat the shit out of that interviewer. Other than that, I quite liked Judith Butler in this.

Yea the interviewer gave off some fucked up vibes. Not a fan of Butler (especially after some of the recent shit) but I thought she refuted some of the talking points nicely here.

Recent shit?

Sorry I’m not super familiar with her.

Her response to the Avital Ronell case (supported an influential prof who was accused of sexual harassing a student) and appears to have supported Kamala Harris in the primaries. A lot of critical theorists end up being kinda lukewarm progressives.

Gross. Academics can’t see past their fucking privilege can they?

The conservatism of the vast majority of 'radical' critical theorists is always astounding to me.

Butler's the godmother of today's Left identity politics and one of those academics for whom humans simply don't exist; we are only group identities or we just don't exist. I'd also like to find an instance of her recognizing the "individual" in any of her writings.

"It assumes that the penis is the threat, or that any person who has a penis who identifies as a woman is engaging in a base, deceitful, and harmful form of disguise. This is a rich fantasy, and one that comes from powerful fears, but it does not describe a social reality. "

That's borderline denial of male rape culture. Like it's impossible to her that a male would "dress up" to get full sympathy among some women in order to abuse? Who the fuck is disconnected enough to think there aren't guys out there who're wily enough for this shit? Now of course this is more of an exaggeration... this stuff doesn't happen all the time, but what do you do when it does?

The penis IS a threat within the scope of patriarchal culture, as a tool for rape and domination... It's also a very old view.

this is laughably off the mark. Laughably, in the sense that I'm about to hang from the rope you're hanging up. :)

Not sure I understand... What rope? Who's hanging who?

your comment appears to support trans-exclusionary position and transphobia when trans people are constantly assaulted in the scope of patriarchal culture.

in your dismissing of Butler's assertion -which you refer to- as " denial of male rape culture", you appear to be validating the "very old view / exaggeration that doesn't happen all the time" Politics , ignoring transness . you seem to be generalizing about identity groupings in the way you allege Butler does, and without any evidence of Butler saying humans individuals don't exist, or that a trans-person can't also abuse , as you appear to be claiming.

and i'm late for the chiropractor ;p L8rz

You realize this applies to you as well? Just accept your clearly suppressed tendency towards solipsism and leave the "internet tough guy" routine to the professionals.
