Flag Day (an original, apologetically)

Submitted by Cheeks in Poetry

Its Flag Day again.
The patriots toast the symbolic stench
of murdered lives being justified
by a flags seven red stripes.
Profits before peace
is the mantra of this supposed democracy.
How you close your eyes and feel dignified
is beyond me.

On Flag Day of any year
I will publicly burn the cloth.
Do to a simple lack of rights,
and you thought,
that freedom for direct action and protest
was one thing that it symbolized,
one glance at the Patriot Act (II)
and you'd think otherwise.

Give me freedom or give me death.
Give me liberty or give me death.
Fuck your flag
and all the rest.
