Definitely disappointing. I think Sanders falls into the trap I've seen many leftists fall into (and I get he's not a true leftist) and that is that if we take care of the economic issues the issues of race sort themselves out.

This is nonsense. Race was used as a tool to create divisions between non-landholding whites and slaves, absolutely. But those divisions are a part of our DNA now and just addressing the economic issues will not fix that.

Of course, I'm a white male in rural Minnesota. PoC's opinion on this matters far more than mine. And I could be giving Bernie too much credit.

Specifically referencing American culture with "our." Obviously the problem with racism is the power to control others lives through the system. But as long as capitalism exists a system, competition will exist and thus racism. We need to work at completely dismantling the system while we address specific issues with the system as well. I've heard too many simply say we need to stop focusing on identity politics and just bring the revolution. The revolution is too far off and we have no right to ask anyone to wait.

I think it's ingrained in some people as a result of being raised by racists. Simply removing the economic factors won't stop the racists from being racist. It's a great, of course. But it isn't enough.
