😂I don't know what FOSS is. Chrome is okay for general usage. I like it's multi device sync feature. One major thing that sets aside chrome from other browsers is the abundance of useful extensions.

If you insist on running a Chrome-like browser, at least uninstall Chrome and replace it with Chromium, which doesn't have a bunch of the google integration and is open-source.

However, Firefox has a huge extension library. I'd be interested to know which extensions you use in Chrome that aren't equally available for Firefox

Actually, Chrome runs in the background and monitors your network traffic. Even if you are using safer browsers for riskier activity, your data is getting leaked to google. Same thing with Android phones, they are always monitoring the traffic on wi-Fi networks they are connected to. This makes your network less safe for you and anyone else who you are living with/around.

Think of privacy practices like you think of vaccines. What creates the public health benefits of vaccines? It's the lack of disease in society which is created by effective vaccines, which creates the lasting benefit-- not the individual who takes the vaccine being immune to it. Vaccines make it less likely that an unvaccinated person will ever come into contact with a disease. Therefore, healthy people should get vaccinated, so that those whose immune systems are already compromised won't get the disease regardless of whether their immune systems permit them to get a vaccine.

The little steps you take to stay safe, help others stay safe-- especially those who can't get a vaccine, or who are specifically targeted for surveillance due to their marginalized status.

The point of contesting corporate surveillance of the internet is to rebuild anonymity and privacy in a broad way, a social way. Saying "Oh it doesn't matter to me" is individualistic, and disregards the need to build herd immunity. If everyone is using best practices, surveillance on everyone becomes less and less feasible.
