Same. And that post on r/piracy brought me here. This is my first comment ever.

I don’t “identify on the left” (whatever that means), however I get along very well with “leftist” libertarians/anarchsists, as I basically share their views. My perfect world is a world without authority, witout coercion, without State, where all individuals are sovereign and get to enjoy their natural right to life & liberty.

Hopefully I will find a new home here.

That makes you an anarchist. A lot of anarchists (including a lot of the ones on raddle) aren't leftists.

/w/anarchy

That makes you an anarchist. It also makes you a human being with a mind of their own. Good to have you here!

Same. It's not bad here. Is there a way to view on mobile other than the browser site?

Fossidarity wrote

Not at the moment, there's a public API in the works so if anyone with the skills to make a mobile client, go for it!

I think I'd like it if the pirates came here!

LET ALL THE RIGHTEOUS ILLEGAL ONES JOIN US

Property is theft. Let's return it to the commons.

I'm glad that r/Piracy's "Ship's Captain" mod u/db0 is already here with us at f/Piracy :)

It is a load of baloney, but Reddit wants to get its ad revenue, so they are bending down to make their website more ad-friendly.

A little rant:

Lately, I have been seeing piracy as more of a policy movement (not political movement) than simple stealing and theft of somebody's work. Students, researchers and universities unable to cope up with exorbitant publication subscriptions, artists finding it difficult to get platform to showcase their art because of strict policies wrt royalties and copyrights, sharks giving no fucks to a legit artist and his fans because "they are too small to matter for their profits" but at the same time, they definitely want them to either pay that money or choke them to death. Bending the govt policies the way they want, throttling content, not allowing people to own stuff, people getting fleeced for the quality of content and what not. All of this is happening because there are no policy for an open environment for artists and ironically, too many landmines for their fan people to step on. Squeezing the two ends and milking out the profits off of them, without even passing on required royalties to little artists. Unless policies are redefined for a win-win-win, no one will be stopping even rich fucks to pirate stuff off of any place. Because I believe, that it isn't just the internet that is responsible for pirated stuff and I love to believe that ;)

Well me too. In the past I pirated because I don't have the money and too small to work, but now I pirate to test game, then buy it to give money to worthy developers and publishers.

Is there anything like the resources of the reddit megathread or wiki here? Those are a treasure trove of content finding information and would serve as an excellent draw for migration when the banhammer falls.

ziq wrote (edited )

w/piracy.

Anyone can add to this wiki once their account is 24 hours old.

Yeah I'm new here as well thanks to reading about that.

Piracy never dies, it only migrates hosts

7

Valmar33 wrote

Exactly.

But, greedy corporations will continue trying to squash piracy, just so they can make even more money than they already have, as they never seem to have enough money.

Problem is, the more they try and push DRM on everyone, the more resentment they create, and so, the more people are willing to pirate as a means to say "well, fuck you".

Reddit is dying, enough said!

Edit: I imagine porn subs might be next.

5

ziq wrote

It would be pretty hypocritical to ban a sub that just talks about piracy but not all the porn subs that actually post pirated porn constantly.

I just came here from Reddit as well, like a bunch of other people probably did after reading the linked post. It’s very strange though that the admins on Reddit won’t actually say which posts had to be removed. I would not be surprised if it is probably them wanting to remove as many “non-friendly” subreddits as possible (as we saw from a few days back) so they can get more ad revenue.

This only works if a lot of people come over though. Else it runs the risk of just being a dead forum nobody posts in, then nobody will join because it's a dead forum nobody posts in.

2

db0 wrote

The idea of posting it early enough in /r/piracy is that so people can bookmark it just in case the main sub gets banned. THEN they can come here, but I can't expect people to migrate in advance.

Are there any plans to make a backup of the discussions? I found some nice resources and helpful comments regarding issues in r/piracy that may help me again or someone else in the future

You could use archive.fo to back up the best threads and link to them in a [Reddit Archives] megathread here.

Also here from reddit. Hopefully raddle will continue to hold true to it's mission unlike reddit. Kids these days cry and whine about anything on the internet that offends them. Reddit used to ban things that were outright illegal, now they ban anything even remotely offensive to someone. It's ridiculous and I hope this place takes off.
