I think I finally met the right man to settle down with and have kids, and many of my friends who are not fellow POC, or even fellow POC simply do not understand black culture or family values.

How do you approach these conversations with your children on why from the outside it looks like we follow strict gender roles, but in reality my man acts that way out of respect for me?

Like I could care less about the casual sex or partying because he never brings drama home; and that’s not coming from internalized misogyny. I do not feel the need to own him because he will provide for me and our family, and always put us first and knows I do the same.

I just simply can not relate to many of my white friends who have kids, but I want my children to have playmates of all types and I’m not sure how to have those conversations with my kids when the time comes.
