When I was younger I thought tattoos were great and planned on getting quite a few but by the time I was 18 I was vegan and had learned to be far more frugal with my money.
Now my opinion on body modification has changed. Lets start with hair color, idk its a lot more mainstream so its not super edgy and its kinda a expensive and probably industrial practice. You gotta buy the bleaches, brushes, plastic gloves, spepcial shampoo ect unless you do more natural colors. And just consumerist habits that you gotta buy a lot of stuff turn me off, its not very culturally edgy anymore and I imagine the chemicals for dying are probabably super toxic for the environment. So I'm turned off by it and think of hair dying as more of a middle class consumerist behaviro that is not very punk or whatever its more just normal fashion that harms animals and plans and just is wastefull.
This is basically my critique of modern tattooing not to mention most of the time its not vegan. Its so wastefull using a ton of disposable products, costs a large amount of money that idk just makes you look like a pompus prick, ect. So I have no interest either.
Regarding piercings they never interested me much aestetically. Though on another level the whole jewlry thing is again just wanting to look like a rich prick with I dislike, and sure some piercings aren't jewly its just metal but its still costs a lot to get done at a decent piercing place.
Though I think there is wiggle room where body mods become cool again. For example pierching your ear at home and doing some kinda earring like a fishhook could be cool But most stuff especially the more complex that people don't DIY especially the fancy jewlry kind turns me off.
Now I think scarification body mods are where it really starts to shine. Its alternative, it scares the libs, uses way less 1 use stuff and isn't really a rich person thing. Tho again its prob pretty expensive to have done. But honestly if you strike brand yourself or agitate a scar you drew thats pretty neat. You can even do the pretty interesting traditional tattoo method of cutting open your skin for a deep scar then aggitating it by rubbing vegan tattoo ink in it to color the scar. Now its not know the health hazards of doing this but sometimes people rub clay into their cut to get an xtremely raised cut supposedly. There is a articel about it on the body mod wiki.
Its not unheard of to buy a tattoo machine and then do it yourself though idk much about it and stick and poke looks like shit if you don't have amazing patience. But that is a option too.
Anybody else got some cool body mod stuff or a body modification hot take.

Sometimes I think I'd like to get tattooed but then I remember it's 200+€ to get something pretty so I don't.
