Madiba Day for Zille

We are unemployed Youth from different areas across the Cape Flats. Many of us have lost parents and family members while waiting for decades for housing delivery. We organise as the Housing Assembly Youth Collective.

We’ve had enough of having to live in bad housing conditions, as backyarders, in informal settlements. Many of us have been rejected and marginalized by this exploitative economy, some are the precarious laborers not to mention the majority that remain unemployed. This has been the experience of our parents and grandparents, dying in overcrowded backyards and informal settlements. Hence, we reject the housing policy and criteria. Youth are always excluded and are not receiving services like housing.

For this reason we are marking Mandela Day by donating a shack to Premier Hellen Zille, to express our concerns and raise awareness on issue of youth and Housing, in order to highlight this government’s separate development policy and the living experiences of millions of poor people in this country. We refuse to be invisible!

Demands:

· We demand decent jobs not the EPWP insecure jobs.

· Decent housing for all.

· We reject Lindiwe Sisulu pronouncement’s requirements and demand that the age be lowered down to 18 years. All within good age must get a house.
