In the same vein, not that many people know that the fanfare from 2001: A Space Odyssey is called "Also sprach Zarathustra", and that it was written long before the movie came out (in 1896, to be exact). I wouldn't say that nobody knows this, but I would say not very many.

Definitely agree with this. I was going to suggest the 1812 Overture.
