I'm sorry you're in this situation. That sounds really rough. Like others said, that club seems very toxic. So you probably should quit. What made you enter that club in the first place?

I think its mostly because I wanted to feel like my life mean something, like I wanted to help people and like some of my favorite youtubers are communist so I assumed that hey, maybe I can join a communist club and be happy with people there. But no. I just feel trapped and belittled, its just not fun and boring. I'm not gonna change my beliefs from this experience but how hard is it to find community without being called brainwashed or an idiot? Like holy shit is some fucking compassion hard to come across??

Who are these youtubers, if I may ask?

Please quit the club for your own sake. The organisers have recreated workplace dynamics with themselves at the top, and there's no reason you should be a willing participant in this without a salary and benefits. You'll probably find that a lot of communist orgs, especially those of the ML variety, are like this.

Youtubers like Second Thought, Thought Slime, Noncompete.

I left the club this morning and blocked some of the users from discord, but at this point now I'm free but I still want to find another community to be a part of that won't treat me awful?

I don't know why I tell you this, because one probably has to find that out on their own, but one doesn't need to create and put a life's purposes for sale. Sense of community is still a spook.

Just my two cents in regards to "communism" and the baggage associated with the word. A lot of people did escape people that considered themselves "communist", and who probably were communists in some sense, after all, being a communist does not automatically prevent someone from doing bad things.

So it is very important to reflect on what aspects of communism you agree with in particular, and why you agree with them, and to be able to explain those things to others, and point out what supposedly "communist" ideas you oppose, especially because communism is such a widely misunderstood idea.

it takes a long time (at least in my experience) to find people that shared my values and arr also active in the community. i had my run in DSA and quickly left when i found folks that focused on doing direct action and things that are actually helpful in the community. my suggestion would be to just go to radical clubs and spaces and meet people and ask them about what projects are goin on in your area. it might take a while but when you find the people that align more closely to how you want to resist oppression and build better projects and community spaces it’ll be worth it. good luck friend <3
