This is the first laptop I ever owned, this beast is from 2005 (I probably got it closer to 2010) . I eventually replaced it due to it becoming a headless machine. It appears that in 2013 I put lubuntu on it and had some plans to turn it into a server of sorts. Never followed through though.

Time to bring it back from the dead. I have a few 32 bit distros primed on usb drives. Once I settle on one I am going to set up ssh, a network drive, and rtorrent on it and turn it into a torrent box.

p.s. yes I know my camera is terrible.

Nice, what other ideas you had about it? I posted there without opening this post, I wonder if old smartphone can be used the same way...

There are several ways to run linux on an android rooted or not so what I describe should be possible. (I bet with the right apps you wouldnt need linux either.) Termux is what I used back inthe day.

If your real luckymaybe you have one of the devices supposrted by ubports or mobian postmarketos.

unless you mean running a phone without a display. I aint sure there is an easy way to do that ( maybe you could install a vnc with adb but how then do you unlock the phone and run the app?) (and if you dont have adb access then are you out of luck?)

I don't have any plans for this device presently. Once I get that stuff set up then I might give it some more tasks to do. with 1.7 Ghz (I think?) it can probably handle a few more things (my linux muse k. mandla did the above setup with only some issues on a 100mhz machine). So i dont know if it will be for this device but I have a lot of things I mean to do eventually.

I need to getr myself a domain.

I have thought about running a freedombox or even just my own blog.

I have also thought about running my own email, doing the wifi equivalent of a my little library (basically an open wifi connection with no internet that has books for people to download), running a tor or syncthing relay.

I have aldo thought of creating my own radio station (which would require some more equipment) or just an internet radio station.

I actually have a text file full of a bunch of ideas.

edit: if you had a slew of devices I wonder if you could do a mesh net. thatd be cool
