That's right, System76 also created their own distro, following on the footsteps of other Linux PC manufactures, such as TUXEDO Computers, which created TUXEDO Xubuntu for their machines. Pop!_OS Linux is designed with the System76 user in mind, but you can also install it on any other laptop or workstation, though it's a modified version of with pre-installed drivers for various of System76's computers.

"When Canonical announced that Unity was coming to an end, we were left to explore our options. While reviewing customer feedback and their usage --combined with the current efforts of our engineers during each Ubuntu launch-- we started to notice gaps. The key realization was that the OS should be an active tool that enhances your workflow and helps navigate the process of bringing big ideas to life," said System76.

Pop!_OS Linux first ever release will be based on Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark), which is set to launch next month on October 19 with the GNOME 3.26 desktop environment by default on top of the next-generation Wayland display server. Pop!_OS Linux will also be using the GNOME Stack and allow users to access Ubuntu's software repositories if they want to install additional apps.

The Beta release of Pop!_OS Linux gives us an early look at what System76 has prepared for the first release of their GNU/Linux distribution, but it's not flawless. Some issues are present, such as the need to remove the "splash" kernel parameter from boot on Nvidia systems with Optimus, the Initial Setup won't look good on HiDPI displays, and Firefox wrongly displays a privacy notice when used for the first time.

But other than that, Pop!_OS Linux should run pretty well on your computers, and you can download the Beta release for Intel/AMD or Nvidia computers right now from System76. Please note that the operating system only supports 64-bit processors, and you must have at least 2 GB RAM and 16 GB free storage for the installation. Don't forget to report bugs if you find any!
