People who suffer from severe anxiety, what desktop environment or window manager makes you less anxious?

Submitted by alqm in LiGNUx

As my anxiety became more severe recently, I had to stop using GNOME. I picked Xfce as an immediate replacement.

Reasons:

  • no animations, no waiting between input and response. I CAN'T WAIT!
  • nothing is hidden from me. The running applications are always visible and accessible.
  • not so hard to setup. Debian does most of it for me. Arch requires installing a screen locker and gvfs-mtp so it will automount Android phones.

I was going to suggest this, but if you're not used to it, it can be a bit weird to learn. Especially if they're someone not hugely familiar with the terminal.

Otherwise, it's a pretty zen wm once you're set up. :)

Cool. I used swayWM and managed to setup the brightness keys, the volume keys of the laptop, except music control keys (but that's managed by the music app?). It worked quite well, and I kept using only terminal applications, such as qutebrowser and weechat. I learned a lot.

Problem is... I've been distrohopping a lot and now I'm exhausted from configuring distros. I've already installed Arch + KDE Plasma and left it with the default configuration.

I don't know if I quite qualify, but I am very impatient and hate when shit is hidden on purpose. I use KDE Neon and have no issues with it. It doesn't have everything I need out of the box though, it's pretty barebones applications-wise.

That's not bad. KDE allows us to disable animations. I am considering it along with Cinnamon. I think Cinnamon offers a good amount of options without being as extreme as Plasma. I'll try them when I get home.

I used to use cinammon but I'm never going back to it.

I'm liking KDE so far, even with the animations! GTK+ DEs are so slow on my machines.

Is it KDE Neon or just standard Kubuntu?

I went with Arch and KDE Plasma. Arch fits in my idea of not hiding things from me. Instead of waiting for automated tasks to finish, I can do it myself. I install Arch blindfolded now after all these years, haha.
