[shoplifting] Over complicated retractor method that might work with some tweaks

Submitted by Uwusketamine445 in Illegalism (edited )

I found this video pretty interesting, at first I shrugged it off as ‘well I can just palm and use other sleight of hand tricks that are less sus and have kept me from getting caught through the countless times I’ve hit the felony limit’. But I was thinking, with a good enough retractor in a store with few tags it might work. High end stores like Gucci and stuff, hell even some of the products at bestbuy. I’m gonna try and rig this up and go test it with electronics and stuff and see if I can get it to work. My main worry is how mad sus it comes across but idk. I’m also high rn so sorry if this comes across as weird or grandiose https://youtu.be/z4zAirpz53w

Hey OP! I couldn't help but notice your discovery. I made a contraption similar to this a long time ago (r/shoplifting era) it works but what I did is I attached the retractable thingy on my arms and I put an adhesive tape on the end. I stick that shit on a deodorant and it pulled it inside my sleeves. I call my contraption the "Reverse De Niro" cause its like the contraption on deniro's arms on the movie taxi driver but in reverse! Sorry for bad English. Goodluck OP!

It’d also give you a chance to detag in the bathroom, which would break lp’s 100% eyes on rule in some stores.

Some bathrooms have towers afaik.

Yeah I know but it’s pretty easy to scout out the ones that do. Even if thy do go off you can push a cart or basket through to and just say you have a tagged item in the cart.

This could really use a tag or something. Method for what? I can't tell unless I look at the body of the post.

Like tag it as shoplifting? I’ll just make it a text post and put the url in the post. Sorry btw

Pretty neat.

So he uses an elastic band to retract it?

Thanks for the link. Might see if I can attach a small but heavy duty clamp/claw onto the end, then reel it in!

My thought was to use and adhesive to reel it in, I figure that might be more versatile.

Or use a Gear Keeper:

Heavy duty (Kevlar cord at 80 lbs), and people use it for tools, phones, etc. Seems very quick!

I literally just watched this last night lol. I think there could be away to do this without is looking so suspicious. Let me know how your testing goes lol.

I don't think it looks sus. He spends a long time debating the merits of two products, drops three of them, and then put two back. It seems pretty normal shopper behavior,

I think the time spent looking at them was just a tad bit too long. I spent a lot of time people watching and if I saw someone looking for that long, I'd think it was a bit odd. That's just my opinion. :)

The guy said he was lp so he probably doesn’t have a ton of experience shoplifting and learning to not look sus.

Very true. That's why I figured there is a way to so it and look like a "normal" shopper.

[Update] I rigged it up with one of my old school lanyards and it looks surprisingly not sus. I’ll have to figure out a good method of attaching objects to it and then work on my strat of not looking sus. I’ll probably try and go hit ulta or Walmart and try it with small stuff that I know won’t detach but I’ll keep you guys updated when I use it.

High posts are best posts. Hopefully this post is watched by all. Any shoplifter will do themselves good to learn how “magic tricks” and deception works.

Yeah I got into basic card/up close magic because of lifting, i hadn’t done it since I was a kid. Everyone should learn sleight of hand tricks if they wanna start stealing.
