So I have been a target customer for over 6 years now, in the past 4, I have discovered the joys of self checkout. I usually get my groceries at target and steal about $10-20 in food items each week. I have been doing this for about 4 years. I typically steal grocery items (lunch meat, cliff bars, etc.) I have stolen health and beauty items a few times, but never electronics.

I just found out about target’s insane LP and foresnsics labs. Last time I went to target I got kinda sketch that they might be case building against me. Is it a bad idea to continue to shop at target, and use the normal registers? I don’t plan on stealing from them in the future, I would just like to be a customer from now on.

If you used cash every time and never parked where their cameras can see your plates you should be fine. But if not there is a chance that they might be case building.

Yeah definitely stop lifting while using that card. If they haven't stopped you after 4 years either you haven't reached your state's felony limit or they haven't realized what you did.

I am going to stop lifting from now on. I don’t feel that it is worth a felony. I am not sure the limit in Florida, but for taking groceries, I don’t think it’s worth the possible consequences

Yeah quit while you're ahead. Much easier to do that at Walmart. Walmart in general is super easy unless you get the one in a hundred with decent LP.

Former Target AP here. Yeah if you used your Target card, you might as well just walked up to AP and showed them your ID and social security card. If you shop and pay legitimately going forward, then you probably have nothing to worry about, but keep up the lifting there and they most likely will have the EASIEST case build against you. All I had to do was put someones credit card number or name into our POSSI (Point of Sale Security Integration) system and boom, it would pull up every transaction journal and video associated with that transaction. Could then back track you through video and see what you selected, and didn't pay for.

Falcon,

I had skipped a few items a few weeks ago at a target. Wasnt caught. Did it again today, and was sropped on my way out the door. I immediately offered to pay for the difference in goods. He let me and watched me as the customer service gentlemen rang me up. I did use my card. Are they going to use that information to go back and check my previous transactions and video footage, or was him allowing me to pay in full and walk out with no backroom, police, etc my freebie.

I will never ever do this again. The shame is overwhelming. Even thought about going back in, speaking to the GM, and offering to give back the clothes i paid for in full today, but allow them to keep the money i paid to cover the other items from before.

Please advise.

If you used your card, most likely they may and try to case build against you. That's at least what I used to do and what my bosses had me do in these situations. They can put your card number into the surveillance system and instantly see every transaction and associated video that with with it.

How would you know if they are building a case?
